The Gift

“Better than therapy,” says Toan Lam, a magnificent human who participated in the first cohort of Your Bestselling Book.
Why is writing your nonfiction book or memoir better than therapy?
Well, I guarantee you that as you write, you will do a deep dive into your soul. You will very likely uncover past memories - as Toan did, when he remembered saving carefully to buy a pair of maroon-colored penny loafers while in middle school, only to be ruthlessly mocked by his classmates when he wore them for the first time. (This story impacted me so deeply that I shared it in my recent TED talk!)
Yet Toan was also able to heal that trauma through writing – and you can, too.
Actual neuroscientific research supports the assertion that when we write, we’re able to form new neural connections, solve more complex problems, develop deeper empathy and yes, heal our past.
But there is another reason why the Your Bestselling Book writing course is so healing: It happens in community.
You will not be alone as you explore your unconscious. You will be surrounded by 9 other aspiring authors and me. And all of us will be cheerleading you, supporting you and nurturing you throughout your author journey.
So, give yourself the gift of writing within a beautifully encouraging community. Join us for the next cohort of Your Bestselling Book. You won’t regret it.
Writing Tip of the Week: Freewrite
So, it’s time to drop the BS and dive in.
- Give yourself at least 5 minutes of quiet, uninterrupted time to write from the soul.
- Don’t worry about what readers will like - at least not for the first draft.
- Just unleash your pen upon the paper or your fingertips on the keyboard and allow what wants to flow to flow.
Do you feel inspired to join the next cohort of Your Bestselling Book? Applications are currently open for September 16 - October 26. Just hit “reply” and let me know!
