The Business Benefits of Writing a Book
Apr 21, 2024Publishing a book is good business.
According to research from the Rain Consulting Group:
- 95% of business owners who have published a book say that it has helped them get more leads
- 50% say their book has helped them increase their fees
- 50% say it has helped them gain higher quality clients
Not only that, but when you publish a book:
- You can triple your speaking fees
- You're more likely to be sought after by the media as a thought leader and invited to appear on stages, podcasts and shows
- You'll be invited to take a seat at the table with more powerful players in your industry
So even though you're unlikely to make any serious money off book sales (few people do), publishing your book will build your brand as a thought leader, and therefore improve your earning power.
Not that it's all about money – because there are many other important reasons to write a book. But hey, the money doesn't hurt!
The truth is, there are still 24 hours in every day. You're just not choosing to read during them.
Now, I'll confess, it ain't easy.
But if you love to read, then you can set aside time to read.
And if you want to write, then you really should be reading. It's the number one most powerful way to hone your craft.
WRITING TIP OF THE WEEK: Pull Up a Seat at the Table
Spend some time this week thinking about the book you might author.
- If you're a leader, is there a principle or set of ideas you've harnessed to lead?
- If you're a founder, did you solve a problem or identify a fresh market?
- If you're a coach, what's the process you take your clients through for transformation?
- If you've made a major career transition, what inspired you to do so?
- If you're just embarking on your career, have you approached it in a unique way?
Now write down that idea and tape it to your wall or stick it to your fridge. Think of it as the seed that can sprout into your bestselling book with some time and attention.
Do you have a story to share?
Aloha,
MeiMei
