I know it’s AI when….
Nov 03, 2024So, this is how fast generative AI is moving these days.
As I was working on this newsletter about how easily I can recognize it when my coaching clients copy and paste from ChatGPT or Google Gemini, my business partner Jen forwarded me an email from Grammarly.
“Working with AI shouldn’t compromise your originality or integrity. Grammarly’s new AI detection feature gives you the data you need to publish your most original writing. The AI checker detects and identifies text that appears to be AI-generated or sounds robotic, giving you the opportunity to cite your AI usage or rephrase the content. Scan your text instantly, then hit publish knowing your writing sounds natural and is authentically yours.”
OMG. There’s AI to detect AI!
Well, I’ll tell you how I can sniff out AI better than bacon cooking in the kitchen.
I know it’s AI when…
I read these phrases
- “In a world where…”
- Example: In a world where everyone is constantly on their devices, we need to take time to unplug.
- “This is not just a [book / movie/ essay/ article] …”
- Example: This is not just a book, it’s an invitation to radically rebuild your life.
- “This is more than a [book / movie/ essay/ article] …”
This is more than a book, it’s a movement. It will inspire people to come together for peace.
I spot wildly excessive use of superlatives:
- “Groundbreaking perspective”
- “Transformative practices”
- “A unique approach”
- “Cutting-edge research”
- “Profound changes”
I read these overused words:
- Innovative
- Disruptive
- Game-changing
- Revolutionary
- Transformational
WRITING TIP OF THE WEEK: Be on the Lookout for AI
Please, feel free to use AI - for first drafts, structuring/ table of contents, help when you’re stuck. But be on the lookout for your AI sounding too, well, AI.
See if you can recognize it in other people’s work, as well.
And perhaps give that Grammarly AI detection of AI tool a run for its money. I’d love it if you reported back your results.
Aloha,
MeiMei
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Aim to be effective, but unpredictable. That is, you want to act in a way that AIs have trouble modeling or imitating. That makes you irreplaceable.
